We started to discuss de Toqueville, but needed more time.

Worked with a partner on “Reading the World” and an essay on page 391.  

Students read it silently and took notes.  Then, they shared their approach with their partner.  

Students then came up with a claim and 4 supporting statements.

Read and acted out all of Chapter 9 in class today.  The chapter involved Simon’s ironic and sad death.  We discussed this and talked about the significance.

Worked on the other set of essays on Adversity and worked through our “Rhetorical Analysis” questions.  

We read 3-4 more pages of Chapter 5 in “Argument.”  We will finish this chapter tomorrow and have our NEWS day on Friday.

Worked in groups (of our Chinese/Japanese texts) and talked about the texts, theses, and directions.  Then Mrs. Powell answered questions about rough drafts.
